Whittlesey slips past Marshfield Chaparrals baseball in 10 innings

MARSHFIELD – Thomas Mildrand knocked in a run in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Whittlesey Reds to a 3-2 win over the Marshfield Chaparrals in a Dairyland League amateur baseball game Saturday at Jack Hackman Field.

Whittlesey pulled ahead 2-0 with a pair of unearned runs in the third inning before the Chaparrals tied it with two in their half of the sixth.

Luke Wirtz walked, Will Lee struck out but reached first on a wild pitch, Caden Schillinger followed with an RBI single and Lee scored on an error to knot the score at 2-2.

The score held until the 10th when the Reds were able to plate a run on three singles.

Chandler Schmidt struck out eight in seven innings on the mound for the Chaparrals before giving way to Chase Higgins, who finished up the final three innings, giving up the one tally in the 10th.

Marshfield returns to action Friday, June 3, with a home game against the Everest Merchants. Game time at Jack Hackman Field is 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
