WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wyatt Post had three hits and three RBI to lead the No. 13 seed Marshfield baseball team to a 4-2 upset win over No. 4 Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal at Lincoln High School.

Marshfield (4-22) moves on to a regional final at No. 4 seed Hudson (18-7) on Thursday at 5 p.m. Hudson defeated Wausau East 7-3 on Tuesday.

Marshfield jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Post singled, went to third on a double by Cole Halvorsen, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Lindemann.

The Tigers tacked on another run in the third. Ben Dietsche doubled with one out and scored on a single by Post.

Marshfield pitcher Braxton Kurth was in cruise control until the fifth when Brian Olds led off with a triple and scored on a groundout by Canon Plawman.

Marshfield put up two insurance runs in the top of the seventh, which proved pivotal.

Carson Matis led off with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bennett Lang. After a groundout pushed Matis to third and Dietsche walked, Post ripped a triple to left to score both runners and put Marshfield on top 4-1.

Wisconsin Rapids scored once in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a Tigers’ error, but Kurth was able to coax a groundout to end the game and send Marshfield into the regional final.

Kurth finished with four strikeouts and did not walk a batter in the complete-game victory.

Jordan Tibbetts also tossed a complete game for the Red Raiders, striking out five.
