Columbus Catholic/Spencer’s Noreen falls in playoff for final state berth at WIAA Division 2 boys golf sectional

MARINETTE – Marshfield Columbus Catholic/Spencer senior Cole Noreen lost in a four-way playoff for the final state tournament berth at the WIAA Division 2 boys golf sectional on Tuesday at Riverside Golf Course.

Noreen finished in a four-way tie for sixth place with an 80, but lost out on the third and final individual state tournament slot as Grant Delsart of Wrightstown won the playoff, which also included Jett Walters of Mosinee and Grant Bauman of Peshtigo.

Calvin Schuerer of Wittenberg-Birnamwood won a three-way playoff to first place after shooting a 78 and earned one individual spot at the 2022 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament at Blackwolf Run in Kohler on June 6-7.

Winneconne won the team title with a 322 behind Casey Peters and Winston Knobloch, who both finished in the three-way tie for first with Schuerer. Berlin was second with a 337 to earn the second of two team spots at the state meet.

Grant Marsich of Wisconsin Dells tied for fourth with Ben Henning of Winneconne to earn the other individual qualifying berth.

Sophomore Charlie Moore shot an 86 to finish in a tie for 20th as well for Columbus Catholic/Spencer.
