Marshfield volleyball sweeps all four matches at first day of Sun Prairie East Invitational

SUN PRAIRE – The Marshfield volleyball team won all four of its matches in pool play to finish first in its bracket at the opening day of the Sun Prairie East Invitational on Friday.

Marshfield swept all four matches, defeating Sun Prairie West 25-7, 25-17; Beaver Dam 25-8, 25-18; Watertown 25-19, 26-24; and Wrightstown 25-11, 25-11.

Abby Ongna had 27 kills, Caitlyn Pernstein added 19 kills, and Reinya Balderson had 65 assists and nine service aces for the Tigers.

Grace Taylor added 17 kills, 20 digs and nine aces, Elise Uphoff had 23 digs, and Lauren Homolka had 14 kills and eight blocks as well for Marshfield (7-1 overall).

“We started out ready to play today and never let up,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “It was awesome to see the girls execute the things we worked on in practice the last couple of days. We definitely had a total team effort as you can see from our statistics today. We’re excited to get back into the gym tomorrow (Saturday) morning.”

The tournament continues on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
