MENOMONIE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team went 7-2 to place fourth at the two-day Menomonie Sprawl at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and Friday and Saturday.

Columbus Catholic rolled through its four matches in pool play on Friday, beating Eau Claire Memorial 25-17, 25-19; Luck 21-25, 25-10, 15-2; St. Croix Central 25-23, 25-10; and Elk Mound 25-23, 25-9.

The Dons won their first three matches on Saturday, beating Wausau West 25-12, 25-10; Eau Claire Regis 30-28, 31-29; and St. Croix Falls 25-23, 18-25, 16-14, before falling the semifinals to River Falls 25-13, 25-12, and losing the third-place match to Hudson 25-20, 25-19.

Courtney Sommer had 48 kills, 17 aces, 41 digs, 64 assists and five blocks to lead Columbus Catholic in its nine matches. Jenna Kibbel had 38 kills, seven aces and 39 digs, Aaliyah Krenn added 37 kills, 10 aces, 18 digs and 11 blocks, and setter Lily Stratman had 68 assists, 25 digs and six aces.

Mattea Schlafke chipped in 17 kills, seven aces and 32 digs, Gracie Wilczek had 16 kills, three aces and 27 digs, and Izzy Hoglund had 15 aces and 77 digs as well for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic will be off until Thursday, Sept. 8, when it plays a nonconference match at Stratford.
