Columbus Catholic soccer wins two of three to take third at Crusader Kickoff tournament

WAUPUN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys soccer team lost its opening game before coming back to win twice and take third place at the Central Wisconsin Christian Crusader Kickoff tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Dons lost their opening to Sheboygan Christian/Sheboygan Lutheran 6-1 on Friday night as Alex Edwards scored Columbus’ only goal, off an assist from Grant Olson, in the 55th minute. Lucas Kreklau had eight saves in goal for the Dons.

On Saturday, Columbus rolled past Kenosha Christian Life 8-0 and edged Waupun 2-1.

Olson and Mason Edwards each had two goals, and Charlie Moore, Seth Roewe, Jaylee Garneau and Cade Jansen also added goals in the win for Columbus Catholic. The goals for Roewe, Edwards, Garneau and Jansen were each their first career high school goal.

Alex Edwards scored twice, the second coming in the 60th minute for what proved to be the game-winner over Waupun.

Kreklau had four saves in goal to give the Dons the third-place finish in the tournament.

Columbus Catholic (3-1) opens its Central Wisconsin Conference schedule at Amherst on Monday at 7 p.m.
