SPENCER – Weyauwega-Fremont scored four long touchdowns in the second half to pull away and defeat Spencer/Columbus Catholic 42-7 in a Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division football game Friday night at Spencer High School.
The loss drops the Rockets to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the CWC Large, while Weyauwega-Fremont remains undefeated at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
W-F quarterback Kameron Zielke hit Hunter Meisenhelder for a 20-yard touchdown on the first drive of the game to give Warhawks a quick 7-0 lead.
Spencer/Columbus countered as Sullivan Melander ran in from the 5 later in the quarter to tie the game, but that was all the Rockets could muster.
Cashten Hoffman ran 64 yards for a score with just 1:49 to go before halftime to give the Warhawks the lead going into the break, and the visitors dominated the second half.
Zielke threw TD passes of 30 yareds to Mesienhelder and 69 yards to Hoffman, before Brayden Arndt ran 63 yards for a score and Hoffman added his third on a 24-yard run int eh fourth quarter.
W-F outgained Spencer/Columbus 423-341 as the Rockets did manage a whopping 316 yards on the ground, but they were hurt by two turnovers and eight penalties that totaled 80 yards.
Melander finished with 129 yards rushing, Carter Luepke added 91 and Kyle Nieman 88 for Spencer/Columbus.
Zielke finished 11-for-13 for 262 yards and the four touchdowns to pace the Warhawks.
Spencer/Columbus travels to Amherst (2-2, 2-0 CWC Large) next Friday, Sept. 16.
