Marshfield High School volleyball player Reinya Balderson has been voted the Awards ‘n’ More August High School Athlete of the Month.

MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports are co-sponsors of the award for the 2022-23 school year. The monthly award will continue through June 2023, and the winners of the Awards ‘n’ More High School Athlete of the Year, for both male and female athletes, will be announced in July.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Newman Catholic, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Wild Rose and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

Balderson received 878 of the nearly 2,100 votes cast during voting from Sept. 2-9 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.

Other nominees for the August award were: Stratford cross country runner Kayla Casperson, Mosinee boys soccer player Jaeger Dhein, Columbus Catholic soccer player Grant Olson, and Assumption football player Cade Statz.

Balderson, the Tigers’ senior setter, has been on point so far in the young season as she helped Marshfield to a 9-2 start in August. Balderson had 62 assists at Wisconsin Valley Conference/Big Rivers Conference Crossover Tournament at Wausau West on Aug. 23, and racked up 127 assists in seven matches at Sun Prairie East Invitational on Aug. 26-27 as the Tigers placed third.
