COLBY – Kayla Casperson won the girls race and Stratford its five scoring runners finish in the top 12 as the Tigers won the team title at the Colby Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Casperson won the race in 20:48.1, 51 seconds ahead of runner-up MaKenna Herrmann of Colby.
Breleigh Skaya was third (22:11.9), Ella Heidmann took fourth (22:40.5), Kressa Wenzel finished 11th (24:06.4) and Samantha Mielke was 12th (24:16.6) for Stratford. Mercedes Kramer was 13th (24:34.21) as well for the Tigers.
Stratford finished with 31 points, five better than Colby. Marshfield Columbus Catholic and Spencer had incomplete girls teams.
Rachel Nieman led Spencer, taking 20th in 25:43.2, and Katelyn Casperson was 23rd in 25:58.6 for Columbus Catholic.
Mauston won the boys team title with 34 points, with Stratford second with 46, Columbus Catholic fourth with 95, and Spencer fifth with 139.
Eli Boppart of Mauston won the boys race in 16:05.6, with Columbus Catholic’s Isaac Scheer a distant second in 17:26.8 and Stratford’s Cree DeFoe third at 18:00.0.
Lance Krieg (eighth, 18:43.2) and Ethan Heeg (10th, 18:50.1) each added top-10 finishes for the Stratford boys.
Zack Christensen took 14th in 19:36.1 for the Dons.
Spencer’s top runner was Breckin Miller, who was 34th in 20:05.4.
