First-place Wausau West slips past Marshfield girls tennis

WAUSAU – The Marshfield girls tennis team took first-place Wausau West to the brink, but fell 4-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet Tuesday at West High School.

Payton Koran won a three-set match at No. 4 singles, and Marshfield won a pair of doubles matches, but were swept in four matches by West (6-0 WVC) and drop to 2-3 in the conference.

Marshfield’s No. 1 doubles team of Sam Ridgway and Danielle Minsaas won 6-1, 6-3, and the No. 2 team of Sophia Morrell and Ava Paape were victorious 6-4, 6-4.

Marshfield will finish its regular-season schedule at Merrill on Thursday. The Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament is Sept. 29 at Wausau East.
