Columbus Catholic volleyball wins title at Medford Invitational

MEDFORD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team was a perfect 4-0 to roll to the championship of the nine-team Medford Invitational on Saturday.

Columbus Catholic defeated Cadott 25-18, 22-25, 15-12, and swept Mellen 25-14, 25-18, Amery 25-15, 25-20, and Stanley-Boyd 25-23, 25-19, to capture the title.

Courtney Sommer had 30 kills, 21 digs, seven blocks and 54 assists, and Jenna Kibble added 28 kills, 27 digs and six service aces in strong all-around efforts for the Dons.

Aailyah Krenn had 27 kills and six blocks, Gracie Wilczek had 33 digs and 14 kills, Izzy Hoglund had a team-best 60 digs, Lily Stratman had 48 assists and 19 digs, and Mattea Schlafke had 19 digs for Columbus Catholic.

“We played some talented teams today and the girls played strong as a team,” Columbus coach Kat Egle said. “They learned how to trust their teammates and appreciate the competition.”

Columbus Catholic will be at home for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division match against Colby on Tuesday starting at 7:15 p.m.
