Marshfield boys soccer rips Merrill in regular-season finale

MARSHFIELD – Julian Clopton had two goals and two assists, and six other Marshfield players scored as well as the Tigers routed Merrill 8-0 in its Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer finale Tuesday at Heiting Community Stadium.

Brett Mannigel, Keegan Fredrick, Maahir Patel and Clopton all scored goals in the first six minutes of the game as the Tigers got off to a hot start.

Clopton and Braxton Kurth added goals before halftime, and Isaac Gamble and Payton Schreiner scored in the second half for Marshfield.

Marshfield finishes the regular season with a 5-11-1 record and a 3-5 mark in the WVC. Merrill falls to 1-14 and 0-8 in conference play.

Marshfield will open postseason play with a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal next Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Wausau East.
