MADISON – Marshfield Columbus Catholic senior Maria Laura Garcia-Moya earned a come-from-behind win in the opening round of the 2022 WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament on Thursday night at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Garcia-Moya (12-5) dropped the first set to Maria Burrows of Kohler before coming back to win 6-4 and won a tiebreaker 10-5 to advance to the second round. She will take on No. 1 seed Angela Wang (23-1) of University School of Milwaukee in the Division 2 No. 1 singles brackets on Friday morning.

Columbus Catholic’s No. 1 doubles team of Declyn Tracy and Maria Elizabeth Garcia-Moya was eliminated on Thursday.

Tracy, a senior, and Garcia-Moya, a sophomore, lost to Edgerton’s Sylvia Fox and Ashley Ulset, 6-1, 6-3, to finish its season with a 9-7 record.
