WAUSAU – The Marshfield volleyball team finished off a perfect season in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a 3-0 sweep of Wausau East on Thursday at East High School.

The Tigers finish the WVC season a perfect 12-0 having not lost a single set in conference play. The last time this was accomplished was by Marshfield in 1999.

Marshfield won 25-15, 25-10, 25-12.

“This team joined a very elite 1999 team by ending their season 12-0 and never dropping a set in conference play,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “This team is so talented and has so much fun together both on and off the court. We are so excited to start the next part of our season next week in regionals.”

Abby Ongna had 11 kills and eight digs, Caitlyn Pernsteiner added 10 kills, and Reinya Balderson had 30 assists and three service aces for Marshfield.

Lauren Homolka chipped in nine kills, and Grace Taylor had eight digs and three aces as well for the Tigers, who have won three-straight WVC championships.

Marshfield will have a week off before opening WIAA postseason play with a Division 1 regional semifinal at home against Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday, Oct. 20.
