Columbus Catholic’s Garcia-Moya drops second-round match at WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament

MADISON – Marshfield Columbus Catholic senior Maria Laura Garcia-Moya had her season come to an end with a straight-set loss at the 2022 WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament on Friday morning at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Garcia-Moya lost to No. 1 seed Angela Wang of University School of Milwaukee 6-0, 6-1, in the second round of the Division 2 No. 1 singles bracket, to finish her season with a 12-6 record. Wang (25-1) won another match to move into Saturday’s semifinals.

Garcia-Moya had reached the second round with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 10-5, win over Maria Burrows of Kohler on Thursday night.

The tournament will conclude Saturday with semifinal and championship matches.
