Auburndale girls basketball overcomes double-digit deficit to win at Stratford, stay unbeaten

STRATFORD – The Auburndale girls basketball team overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and defeated Stratford 56-50 in the Tigers’ season opener on Tuesday night at Stratford High School.

Gracie Krings and Annamaire Aue each scored 10 points in the second half for the Eagles, who trailed 29-19 at halftime before outscoring the Tigers 37-21 in the second half.

Auburndale made 17 of 26 free throws in the second half surge.

Gracie Krings finished with a game-high 19 points, Ashlyn Grimm added 11 points, and Aue and Josie Ertl both had 10 in the win for Auburndale (2-0 overall, 2-0 Marawood South).

Tessa Berg scored 12 points, and Lauren Kraus had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Stratford, which was playing its season opener.

Auburndale plays a nonconference game at Rosholt on Monday. Stratford is off until Thursday, Dec. 1, when it plays a nonconference game at home against Spencer.
