Columbus Catholic girls basketball holds off Colby to grab first win of season

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team outscored Colby by two points in each half and scratched out a 51-47 victory on Tuesday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The win is the first of the season for the Dons, who are now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Cloverbelt East.

Columbus Catholic made five 3-pointers in the second half – seven in all – in the victory. Hailey Zimmermann led the way with 16 points, and Gracie Wilczek, Maggie Callaghan and Jenna Kibbel each chipped in eight.

Hayden Willner poured in 25 points for Colby (1-2, 1-1 Cloverbelt East).

The Dons will play in the Cranberry Classic at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Friday and Saturday. Columbus takes on Merrill in a first-round game Friday at 11:30 a.m.
