Marshfield boys hockey slams Stoughton in season opener

TOMAH – The Marshfield boys hockey team opened its season with a resounding 9-2 win over Stoughton in a semifinal at the Tomah/Sparta Invitational on Friday at the Tomah Ice Center.

Charlie Kenney and Noah Peterson each had a pair of goals, and Joe Cashmer had a goal and three assists for the Tigers.

Marshfield jumped out to a 5-0 lead before a power play goal in the final minute of the second period put Stoughton on the board.

The Tigers tacked on three more goals to win going away.

Cole Halvorsen had 11 saves in goal for Marshfield, which outshot Stoughton 57-13.

Marshfield will play for the tournament championship on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
