BLACK RIVER FALLS – The Auburndale wrestling team had three champions and two others finish in the top three as it placed third at the Black River Falls Invitational on Saturday to open its season.
Portage won the team title with 187 points, with Ladysmith second with 156.5 and Auburndale third with 151.5. Spencer/Columbus was 14th with 57 points and the Stratford JV was 19th with 25 points.
Derek Godard (106 pounds), Colton Weiler (132) and Sloan Welch (220) earned weight class titles for Auburndale.
Zade Grassel was second at 126, Adam Dorshorst took third at 195 and Wyatt Malsin was fifth at 145 as well for the Eagles.
Spencer/Columbus had three wrestlers finish in the top six as Mason Wolf (132) and Cole Hanson (220) took fifth, and Chris Schmidt was sixth at 182.
Lucas Forrest finished third at 120 for the Stratford JV.
