College roundup: Updates on Schwaneback-Ostermann, Donovan, Baierl, Ott

A number of former local high school athletes have moved on to the next level and are playing sports collegiately across the country.

Periodically, MarshfieldAreaSports.com will publish a College Sports Roundup updating readers on some of those local athletes’ exploits at the collegiate level.

Schwanebeck-Ostermann continues career at Augsburg
Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann, a 2019 graduate of Marshfield High School, is a junior on the Augsburg (Minn.) University wrestling team. Augsburg is a NCAA Division III school in Minneapolis.

Schwaneback-Ostermann is off to a 14-3 start this season, which includes seven pins and a technical fall. He won the 184-pound title at the Augsburg Invitational on Nov. 19 and at the North Central (Ill.) Invitational on Dec. 10, and tied for first at 184 pounds at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invite on Dec. 3.

He went 20-8 last season and placed sixth at the NCAA Division III tournament.

Augsburg’s next tournament is Dec. 29-30 at the Citrus Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Donovan competes for UW-Eau Claire football
Matt Donovan, a 2021 graduate of Marshfield High School, recently completed his sophomore season on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team.

Donovan, a defensive back, did not see any action this season as the Blugolds finished 2-8. He had three tackles in three games in 2021.

Baierl part of UW-Platteville rotation
Addison Baierl, a 2020 Marshfield Columbus Catholic High School graduate, is a sophomore on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women’s basketball team.

Baierl has played in all 11 games thus far this season for the Pioneers, who are 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Baierl averages 15.5 minutes per game, putting up 4.8 points per contest. She is shooting 80 percent from the free throw line (24-for-30) and is also averaging 3.6 rebounds per game.

Platteville is off until Dec. 28 when it plays at Augustana (Ill.).

Ott completes sophomore season at UW-Stout
Jackson Ott, a 2021 Marshfield High School graduate, recently finished is sophomore season on the University of Wisconsin-Stout football team.

Ott, a reserve defensive back, saw action in one game this season, recording two tackles in a win over Crown College on Sept. 24.

Stout finished the season 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the WIAC.
