Columbus Catholic boys basketball jumps on Spencer early, cruises to win in Cloverbelt East opener

SPENCER – Marshfield Columbus Catholic raced out to a big lead by halftime and rolled to a 78-46 win over Spencer in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener for both teams on Tuesday night at Spencer High School.

The Dons put up 43 first-half points to take a 43-22 lead into halftime. Columbus outscored Spencer by 11 in the second half to win going away.

Blake Jakobi had 19 points and Grant Olson added 15 to lead the Dons. Charlie Moore, who like Jakobi had three 3-pointers, ended up with 13 points, and Emmitt Konieczny kicked in 12 as Columbus Catholic improves to 4-2 overall.

Jonathan Jonas had 13 points to lead Spencer, which falls to 1-2 overall.

Columbus Catholic will host Neillsville and Spencer will play at Loyal in Cloverbelt East action Friday. Both games start at 7:15 p.m.
