MADISON – Madison Memorial scored five unanswered goals over the final two periods to defeat Marshfield 7-1 in a quarterfinal of the Culvers Cup boys hockey tournament on Wednesday at the Madison Ice Arena.

After Memorial jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in a 30-second span, Marshfield’s Noah Peterson scored to cut the Tigers’ deficit in half going into the second period.

That would be all Marshfield could muster against Memorial goalie Owen Anderson, who made 11 saves on 12 shots.

The Spartans were able to score twice in the second period and three more times in the third to win going away.

Elijah Elmer and Rudy Richards each scored twice, and Riley Boyle had a goal and four assists for Memorial (6-2).

Marshfield (5-5) moves into a consolation game on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. against Oshkosh. Marshfield defeated Oshkosh 6-3 in a nonconference matchup back on Dec. 8.
