MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield wrestling team remains undefeated in the Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet season after posting a pair of victories over Stevens Point and D.C. Everest on Thursday at Marshfield High School.
The double-dual, precipitated by a postponement of a match due to poor weather in December, saw Marshfield down Stevens Point 56-21 and D.C. Everest 45-29 to stake claim to sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
Ava Gardner (113 pounds), Jace Kelnhofer (120), Brett Franklin (138) and Owen Griesbach (170) earned pins for the Tigers in the win over Stevens Point.
Jon Sternweis won by technical fall at 106, and Hoyt Blaskowski (145), Garrett Willuweit (160) and Mason Seidl (182) earned hard-fought decisions as well for Marshfield.
After falling behind 26-9 against D.C. Everest, Marshfield won six-straight matches to pull out the win and improve to 4-0 in conference duals.
Blaskowski (152), Grayden Rode (160), Willuweit (170) and Griesbach (182) all earned pins, while Dalton Hagen (145) and Seidl (195) won by forfeit for the Tigers.
Adrian Kruger won a 3-1 decision at 285 and Sternweis had another first-period pin as well for the Tigers.
Marshfield will turn around and compete at the Fennimore Quad on Friday night along with Holmen and Lodi. Wrestling begins at 5 p.m.
