Colby clinches at least a share of Cloverbelt East title with win over Columbus Catholic boys basketball

COLBY – Kaden Weise had 16 points to lead three Colby players in double figures as the Hornets completed a season-sweep of Marshfield Columbus Catholic with a 66-54 win in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Thursday at Colby High School.

Mateo Lopez added 15 points and Tucker Meyer chipped in 11 for Colby, which clinches no worse than a tie for the conference championship as it opens up a two-game lead over Owen-Withee and Neillsville (Neillsville beat O-W on Thursday), and are 2½ games ahead of Columbus in the Cloverbelt East standings with only two games remaining.

Colby (14-3, 11-1 Cloverbelt East) plays at Neillsville on Tuesday, while Columbus Catholic will play a make-up game at Loyal on Friday before playing at Greenwood on Tuesday.

Blake Jakobi had 15 points, Lucas Kreklau scored 14, and Emmitt Konieczny added 12 for the Dons, who fall to 13-7 and 8-3 in the conference.
