Loyal holds off late comeback attempt to beat Columbus Catholic in Cloverbelt East girls basketball finale

LOYAL – Loyal ran out to a nine-point lead by halftime and held on to defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 45-43 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball finale for both teams on Friday night at Loyal High School.

The Dons trailed by seven late before mounting a comeback that came up just short as Sam Casperson made a 3-pointer in the final seconds to provide the final two-point margin.

Jenna Kibbel had 16 points, and Hailey Zimmermann and Hailey Klumb each added 11 for the Dons, who finish 10-4 and in second place in the Cloverbelt East, and fall to 14-9 overall.

Alyssia Zvolena had 12 points and Olivia Nikolai added 10, with both hitting a pair of 3-pointers, for Loyal (11-11, 9-5 Cloverbelt East).
