Auburndale’s Willfahrt, Stratford’s Wrensch among first-team selections to 2022-23 All-Marawood Conference South Boys Basketball Team

Auburndale senior Alex Willfahrt and Stratford senior Ashton Wrensch were among the first-team selections to the 2022-23 All-Marawood Conference South Division Boys Basketball Team, as voted on by the six conference coaches following the season.

Marathon’s Grant Warren was named the Player of the Year and was a unanimous first-team pick, along with Wausau Newman Catholic senior guards Mason Prey and Isaac Seidel.

Willfahrt, who also was a unanimous selection, led Auburndale in scoring at 14.5 points per game this season with 32 3-pointers as the Eagles finished third in the Marawood South at 13-3 and ended up 24-4 overall after reaching the Division 4 sectional final.

Wrensch was Stratford’s top scorer at 15.9 points per game as he shot 54 percent from the field and made 21 3-pointers. He also led the team in rebounding (4.2 per game), assists (62) and steals (50).

Warren led the conference-champion Marathon in scoring at 24 points per game while shooting 64 percent from the field, and in rebounding with a Marawood South-best 13.4 per contest.

Prey scored 23.5 points per game while making 65 3-pointers and shooting 82 percent from the free throw line, while Seidel made an astounding 105 3-pointers this season and averaged 19.1 points per contest for Newman Catholic, which finished second in the conference and has qualified for the WIAA state tournament in Division 5.

Auburndale senior Lucas Yeske and junior Caden Weinfurter were among the second-team selections, and teammates Mason White Eagle and Evan Scholl were honorable mention choices.

Stratford’s Brady Schmidt and Braeden Schueller were also honorable mention picks for the Tigers.

Auburndale’s Trayton Weber and Stratford’s Johnny Seitz were both selected to the All-Defensive Team.

Marathon’s Adam Jacobson was named Coach of the Year.
