Auburndale baseball uses big first inning to ease past Spencer in season opener

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Auburndale scored 11 runs in its first at-bat of the season and rolled to a 19-3 win over Spencer in a nonconference baseball game Thursday at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.

Alex Willfahrt had a double, a triple and three RBI, and scored three times to pace the Auburndale offense.

Ian Brown, Kaden Anderson and Tim Schmitt all added two hits apiece, with Schmitt and Caden Weinfurter both driving in three runs as well for the Eagles, who had five extra base hits in the win.

Blake Raab earned the win, pitching three scoreless innings with four strikeouts for Auburndale.

Spencer (1-1) was limited to two hits, singles by Kaiden Miller and Andrew Sieracki.

Spencer hosts Stanley-Boyd for a nonconference game Monday, while Auburndale is scheduled to host its home and Marawood Conference South opener Monday against Edgar.
