Marshfield baseball shuts out Antigo to win season opener

MARSHFIELD – Carson Matis and Chase Robinson combined on a four-hit shutout to lead the Marshfield baseball team to a 6-0 nonconference win over Antigo in its 2023 season opener Monday at Safford Field.

Matis struck out seven in 4 2/3 innings and earned the win, while Robinson picked up the saves by getting the final seven outs, three by strikeout.

Ben Dietsche, Braden Anderson and Matis had RBI singles in the third inning to give Marshfield a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers added three insurance runs in the sixth as Chase Robinson was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a passed ball, Dietsche added another RBI single to drive in Whyatt Post, and Dietsche came around to score on a single by Mitchell Schade.

Marshfield will host Merrill in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Tuesday at Safford Field beginning at 4 p.m.
