Wisconsin Rapids hands Marshfield softball first loss of season

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids used an eight-run fifth inning to bust open a tie game and defeat Marshfield 11-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball matchup Thursday at Lincoln High School.

Shylah Brogan and Madison Kraus had RBI in the opening two innings to give Marshfield a quick 2-0 lead before Rapids tallied runs in the second and third to tie it.

The score remained tied until the fifth when the Raiders scored eight times against Marshfield pitcher Katelyn Sternweis, who finished with nine strikeouts and six walks in a complete game. Eight of the Raiders’ 11 runs were earned.

Sawyer Holberg a single, double and a triple and drove in two runs, and Kristin Radtke also had two RBI for Wisconsin Rapids (4-0 overall, 2-0 Wisconsin Valley Conference).

Raina Manlick, Brogan and Kraus had two hits each for Marshfield, which had nine in all but stranded 10 runners.

Marshfield (4-1, 1-1 WVC) returns to action Tuesday at Stevens Point.
