Columbus Catholic softball drops nonconference game to Merrill

WISCONSIN DELLS – Merrill scored multiple runs in four of its six at-bats and defeated Marshfield Columbus Catholic 14-4 in a nonconference matchup Saturday at the Woodside Sports Complex.

Merrill put out four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and after Columbus Catholic battled back to pull to within one at 5-4, the Bluejays put up three runs in the third and scored six more in the final two innings to win via the 10-run rule after six innings.

Cierra Dieringer was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Shelby Spata had two hits and scored twice for the Dons, who fall to 2-2.

Sophie Wendorf had four hits, and Olivia Pierce hit a home run and drove in three for Merrill (2-3).

Columbus Catholic hosts Colby/Abbotsford for its Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
