WAUSAU – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County men’s basketball team lost its second straight game, falling to UW-Marathon County on the road Monday night, 73-70.
The Marauders 29-28 at halftime before putting up 42 points in the second half of the tight game.
Trevor Gorman scored 28 points, Jake Scheppler had 20 and Isaac Dahlke added 11 for UW-Marshfield, which falls to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference.
The Marauders stayed in the game with superior 3-point shooting. Marshfield hit 11 of 23 from long range, including 6 of 11 from Gorman.
“I am proud of the guys and their effort,” Marshfield coach Ron Wilczek said. “We competed hard against a very good UW-MC team without two starters. This was the third game without Brandon DeSmet (he disclocated his shoulder a week ago in gym class last Monday) and we lost Matt Klieforth before halftime with a cut to the head that required stitches and he also had a concussion.”
The Marauders play at Madison Area Technical College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in their final game before having nearly a month off for semester break.
