MADISON – The Marshfield baseball team earned a split of a nonconference doubleheader, defeating Madison Memorial 4-2 in the opener before losing a wild 22-18 decision in the second game Monday at Mansfield Stadium.
Zander Edmundson tossed a gem in the first game for the Tigers, scattering six hits while walking just one in a complete-game effort.
Owen Griesbach and Whyatt Post each had three hits, with Post driving in two runs to lead the Marshfield offense.
The Tigers scored seven times in the top of the first in the second game, before Memorial exploded for 11 runs in both the first and second innings to take a commanding lead.
Both starting pitchers didn’t record an out in the first inning and it was left to the bullpens, which didn’t fair much better.
The Tigers scored eight times in the top of the fifth inning to close to within four before the game was called off.
Four Marshfield pitchers walked 14, while a pair of Memorial pitchers walked a total of 13 in the five-inning game.
Owen Griesbach scored three times and knocked in a pair, Bennett Lang had two hits and two RBI, and Braxton Kurth also drove in two for Marshfield (5-2).
Marshfield hosts Mosinee for a nonconference game Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
