Weier scores 17 to lead Spencer girls basketball to second straight win

AUGUSTA – The Spencer girls basketball team won its second straight game, outscoring Augusta in every quarter to win the Cloverbelt Conference East Division matchup 53-38 on Thursday night at Augusta High School.

Krystal Weier made 8 of 13 shots to score a team-high 17 points for the Rockets, who improve to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Cloverbelt East.

Despite another good offensive performance from Allie Nelson (17 points), Augusta falls to 1-4, 0-4 in the conference.

Spencer led 16-9 after the first quarter and 26-15 at halftime, and coasted from there.

Courtney Schulz had 12 points and six rebounds and Kyleigh Hebert added 10 points, five rebounds and five steals for Spencer.

Spencer shot well from the field, making 20 of 48 shots, and also was a solid 14 of 19 from the free-throw line.

The Rockets host Marshfield Columbus Catholic (3-4, 2-2 Cloverbelt East) on Tuesday.
