STRATFORD – John Seitz had a two-out single to score Cole Tichy with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Stratford baseball team defeated Athens 6-5 in a nonconference matchup Monday at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.

A four-run fifth inning gave Athens a 5-1 lead before the Tigers came back to force extra innings.

Stratford scored three runs in the fifth thanks to a bases-loaded walk and a dropped third strike that turned into a run.

The Tigers tied the game in the seventh. An error and three-straight walks forced in a run to tie the game at 5-5.

Brady Schmidt earned the win with two shutout innings. No Athens’ batters reached base and Schmidt had four strikeouts in the two frames for the Tigers.

Stratford starter Jackson Ormond struck out 10 and walked five in 4 1/3 innings. He also had two RBI for the Tigers.

Stratford (10-3) hosts Wausau Newman Catholic for a Marawood Conference South Division doubleheader Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
