Marshfield boys tennis team eliminated at WIAA Division 1 subsectional

WAUSAU – All four singles players and three doubles team for Marshfield were eliminated at the WIAA Division 1 boys tennis subsectional Monday at Wausau West High School.

Those reaching the semifinals in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and players reaching the finals in the other three singles and two doubles flights, qualify for the Division 1 sectional Wednesday at Eau Claire.

Three Marshfield singles players reached the semifinals before losing. Dillon Scheuer at No. 2 lost his semifinal match to Ted Kitchell of D.C. Everest 6-2, 6-2; Will Jepson at No. 3 singles dropped a semifinal to Mason DeBot of Stevens Point 7-6 (6), 7-6 (7), and Antonio Koehn at No. 4 singles lost his semifinal match to Carson Slowsinki of Stevens Point 6-2, 6-0.

Marshfield’s top singles player Kai Rens, and all three Tigers’ doubles teams all lost their opening matches.

Rens fell in straight sets to Dalton Fritz of Rhinelander 6-2, 6-4 in a No. 1 singles quarterfinal.

Marshfield’s No. 1 doubles team of Ryan Grassman and Peter Tompkins lost to Jack Diekelman and Carter Gaede 6-0, 6-1; the No. 2 team of Aran Tripathi and Henry Johnson fell to Andrew Franken and Sully Hanz of Wausau East 6-1, 6-3, and the No. 3 team of Kevin Buth and Rahul Dissenyake dropped a hard-fought match to Elliot Harding and Kaedyn Kelly of Wausau East 7-6 (3), 7-6 (6).
