MARSHFIELD – Columbus Catholic scored three unearned runs thanks to two errors in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Marathon 4-2 in a nonconference baseball game Monday night at Jack Hackman Field.

The Raiders tied the game at 1-1 after a go-ahead RBI single by Hector Pintor in the top of the sixth before Columbus Catholic caught a couple of breaks in the bottom of the frame.

Singles by Grant Olson and Mac Konieczny was followed by a bunt by Devlin Timmler that was thrown away and allowed both to score. After a strikeout, Nemitz hit a fly ball that was dropped and allowed Timmler to score to put the Dons up 4-1.

Marathon threatened in the top of the seventh, finally getting to freshman pitcher Mac Konieczny.

With two outs, Pierson Hamann walked and scored on a double by Tyler Underwood for Marathon (15-5), chasing Konieczny from the game after he struck out five and walked three in 6 2/3 innings.

Olson entered and struck out the final batter to earn the save for the Dons (14-7).

Columbus Catholic will wrap up its Cloverbelt Conference East Division and regular-season schedule at Owen-Withee on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before opening WIAA postseason play with a Division 4 regional quarterfinal at home against Greenwood on Thursday at 5 p.m.
