Columbus Catholic baseball wins wild game at Owen-Withee

OWEN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team wrapped up its regular season with a slugfest against Owen-Withee, winning 15-11 on Tuesday at Owen-Withee High School.

The Dons end the regular season with a 15-7 record, a 10-2 mark in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division, and a five-game winning streak. After starting the season 2-5, Columbus has won 13 of 15 games as it tries to make a return trip to the WIAA state tournament.

Seven pitchers shared duties for the Dons, who begin postseason play with a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal at home against Greenwood on Thursday.

Columbus Catholic had 14 hits, including five doubles, and took advantage of six walks and seven errors to get past the Blackhawks (7-10, 6-6 Cloverbelt East).

Emmitt Konieczny was 4-for-4 and scored twice, and Grant Olson had two hits and five RBI to lead the way for the Dons.

Thursday’s playoff game at Jack Hackman Field begins at 5 p.m.
