Auburndale baseball pounds Loyal in regular-season finale

LOYAL – The Auburndale baseball team closed out its regular-season schedule with a big hitting night as it defeated Loyal 13-4 in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at Loyal High School.

The Eagles (13-7) had 13 hits, including four by Caden Weinfurter, and used a seven-run third inning to bust open a scoreless game and rolled from there.

Nathan Richardson picked up the pitching win with 4 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, striking out seven and walking just one.

Blake Raab and Aden Cherney each added two hits, with Cherney driving in three runs, and Weinfurter and Kaden Anderson each with two RBI for Auburndale.

Both teams begin postseason play Thursday. Auburndale hosts Crandon in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal, while Loyal travels to Pepin/Alma for a Division 4 regional quarterfinal.
