Auburndale baseball scores two in seventh to knock off top-seeded Coleman in WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal

COLEMAN – The Auburndale baseball team scored twice in the top of the seventh inning and held on to defeat No. 1 seed Coleman 7-5 in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal Tuesday at Coleman High School.

No. 8 seed Auburndale (15-7) moves on to a D-3 regional final at No. 4 Wittenberg-Birnamwood (17-7) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Wittenberg-Birnamwood defeated Bonduel 7-1 on Tuesday.

Blake Raab went the distance for the Eagles, striking out eight and walking two while giving up just four hits to earn the win.

Auburndale led 5-0 before Coleman scored three times in the third and added two more in the fourth to tie the game. Raab kept the Cougars (20-2) scoreless the rest of the way and the Auburndale bats produced the two go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh.

With two outs, Alex Willfahrt singled and Sloan Welch walked. Caden Weinfurter lined a base hit to score Willfahrt to give the Eagles the lead. They tacked on another when Ian Brown hit a pop up that dropped in to plated Welch.

Raab added three hits and scored twice, Aden Cherney had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, and Willfahrt had two hits, two runs scored and drove in two to pace the Auburndale offense.
