CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield Senior American Legion baseball team finished 1-2 at the Chippewa Falls Tournament over the weekend.
River Falls topped Marshfield 10-4 on Saturday afternoon before Saturday night’s matchup with Chippewa Falls was rained out with Chippewa Falls leading 1-0 in the fourth inning.
Marshfield rebounded Sunday with a resounding 21-5 victory over Stevens Point before losing its final game at the tournament 2-0 to Eau Claire.
Chase Robinson had a double and a home run, and Brock Bennington and Isaac Zeps each had two hits for Marshfield in the loss to River Falls.
Bennington and Robinson both had big games against Stevens Point as well. Bennington was 3-for-4 with two RBI and five runs scored, and Robinson went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Ben Dietsche added a pair of hits and four RBI, and Mitchell Schade was 3-for-4 with three RBI as well for the Blue Devils.
Zander Edmundson earned the win, striking out seven and allowing five runs, four earned, in five innings. Brad Neve struck out three in two scoreless innings to wrap up the victory for Marshfield.
Marshfield was held to three hits in the shutout loss to Eau Claire. Aden Cherney allowed two first-inning runs and that would be all the scoring in the game. Dietsche threw 4 1/3 innings giving up just two hits and no runs.
Marshfield (3-7) returns to Wisconsin Valley Legion Conference action Monday night at home against Plover. First pitch at Jack Hackman Field is set for 7 p.m.
