Marshfield Junior Legion edges Stevens Point at 17U regional

STEVENS POINT – Bryce Schade and Caleb Schaefer combined on a one-hitter as the Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team kept its season alive with a 5-4 victory over Stevens Point in an elimination game at the 17U regional on Saturday at Bukolt Park.

Schade walked eight and allowed four runs, but did not give up a hit in his six innings of work. Schaefer came in and earned the save with a shutout seventh.

Tyler Kremer went 2-for-3 and drove in a run, Mason Anderson had two RBI, and Schaefer scored twice for the Junior Devils (9-21).

A rain out Saturday night will force the tournament to move its schedule into Monday. Plover and Wausau will play a winners’ bracket game at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the loser taking on Marshfield at 1 p.m. for a berth in the championship round. Wisconsin Rapids and the Plover-Wausau winner at 4 p.m. and will also move on to the championship, which will be played at 4 p.m. Monday, and 7 p.m. if necessary.
