MARSHFIELD – Longtime Marshfield High School soccer coach Steve Lindner has announced he is retiring from his position as boys assistant coach and girls head coach.

Lindner served as the Marshfield girls soccer head coach for 13 years, finishing with a school record 116 wins. He ended up with an all-time record of 116-118-7, which included six regional championships and one sectional title, leading to Marshfield’s lone WIAA state tournament appearance in 2019.

“It has been a pleasure coaching the teams, especially the varsity girls,” Lindner said. “We accomplished some incredible things, with only a conference championship that eluded us. Going to state was a wonderful experience and enjoyable time.

“There have been some incredible soccer minds come through while I was here and coached with, like Steve McCann, Ron Todryk, Brad Kowalski and Jeff Molter, and many great soccer players as well including Nina Hashimoto, who became the single-season Marshfield scoring leader in 2019 with 84 points, as well as Darian Molter, who left as the school’s leading career scorer (261 points) and 15th overall in Wisconsin girls soccer history with 120 goals.”

Lindner, who was part of the School District of Marshfield in some capacity for 27 years, also coached the UW-Marshfield soccer team for 12 seasons, 10 as a head coach.
