PLOVER – Plover put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to push past Marshfield Post 54 5-3 in an opening-round game at the Class AAA Region 2 tournament at Memorial Field on Wednesday night.

Marshfield led early after scoring twice in the first inning on an RBI fielder’s choice grounder by Adam Gilbertson and Brock Bennington, who was hit by a pitch, scored on an error.

The Blue Devils (4-21) pushed their lead to 3-0 on an RBI single by Trevor Foemmel, but that would be all for Marshfield.

Plover (27-4) scored a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Braylen Nystrom, then plated four runs in the fourth thanks in part to two Marshfield errors and a bases-loaded walk.

Marshfield finished with just five hits, only one after the third inning.

Marshfield will play Stevens Point in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Thursday. The double-elimination tournament, with a berth in next week’s Class AAA state tournament in Marinette on the line, runs through Saturday.
