MARSHFIELD – Marshfield used a 19-0 run to start the second half to take an eight-point lead, then held off a run by Eau Claire North in the fourth quarter to beat the Huskies 55-51 in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers improve to 6-0 to start the season, while North falls to 0-6.

Marshfield trailed 34-23 at halftime before surging ahead to start the third quarter.

The Tigers led 44-36 heading into the fourth after a 21-2 third quarter, but North came back and tied the game with 3 minutes to go.

A 3-point play by Cale Zuiker, who led all scorers with 28 points, gave Marshfield the lead with a little more than 1 minute left and led the rest of the way.

Marshfield was 12 of 14 from the free-throw line in the game, and also hit five 3-pointers to counter North’s hot shooting from outside. The Huskies made 10 3-pointers.

Elliot Ashbeck added 15 points for Marshfield.

The Tigers will play Chippewa Falls on Dec. 29 and Superior on Dec. 30 at D.C. Everest as part of the Big Rivers/Wisconsin Valley Conference Challenge. North will play Wausau East on Dec. 29 and Merrill on Dec. 30, also at Everest.
