Stratford football dominates Mosinee in season opener

MOSINEE – The Stratford football team opened defense of its WIAA Division 6 state championship with a dominating nonconference win Friday night, rolling past Mosinee 33-14 at Mosinee High School.

Jack Tubbs threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jett Schoenherr, Matt Folz returned an interception 24 yards for a score, and Koehler Kilty scored from the 6 to give Stratford a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter.

Tubbs tossed another 30-yard TD pass, this time to Gavin Leonhardt, and Kilty had a 5-yard touchdown run in the second half as the Tigers were able to offset two Mosinee scores to finish off the victory.

Individual statistics were not provided.

Stratford will host Edgar for a nonconference game next Friday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. at the newly refurbished Tiger Stadium. Mosinee plays a nonconference game at Clintonville next Friday.
