NEW RICHMOND – New Richmond scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to erase a one-point deficit and defeat Marshfield 31-10 in a nonconference football game Friday night at New Richmond High School.

New Richmond led 9-3 after four combined field goals in the first half. Bjorn Bahneman kicked field goals of 28, 32 and 29 yards for New Richmond, the final one coming on the last play of the half, while Joshua Steinbach had a 23-yard field goal for Marshfield.

Marshfield scored late in the third quarter after a fumble recovery by Aiden Brenner. Mason Seidl plowed in from 1 with 3:41 to go in the period to give Marshfield its first lead of the season as it went ahead 10-9.

Marshfield looked poised to extend its lead after an interception, but lost a fumble and from there it was all New Richmond.

New Richmond scored on its last three possessions as it wore down Marshfield with its ground game. New Richmond (2-0) finished with 411 total yards, 255 rushing as Miles Burke racked up 105 yards on just 10 carries.

Marshfield ended up with just 237 yards and two costly turnovers. Seidl had 83 yards rushing and scored Marshfield’s only touchdown, and Chris Pohl hauled in seven passes for 82 yards.

Marshfield (0-2) hosts Wausau East (1-1) for its Valley Football Association and home opener next Friday, Sept. 1, at Heiting Community Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
