Columbus Catholic soccer splits pair at Crusader Kickoff to finish third

WAUPUN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team went 1-1 on Saturday to finish third at the two-day Central Wisconsin Christian Crusader Kickoff.

Columbus lost its semifinal match to Lake Country Lutheran 6-1 before coming back to beat Lake Mills 2-1 in the third-place game.

Alex Edwards scored Columbus’ only goal in the loss to LCL, which was also the Dons’ only shot on goal and Lake Country Lutheran dominated play, outshooting Columbus 26-2 overall.

Lucas Kreklau had six saves in goal for the Dons.

Edwards had both of Columbus Catholic’s goals in the victory over Lake Mills, and Kreklau finished with seven saves.

Lake Mills had an 18-7 advantage in shots and held the Dons to only three shots on goal, but two of them found the net for Edwards.

Columbus (2-1-1) hosts Amherst in its Central Wisconsin Conference opener Monday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
