Marshfield boys hockey loses opener at Andrew Thiel Memorial Tournament

MARSHFIELD – Austin Frank had two goals and an assist and Matthew Bulovsky had a goal and two assists to lead DeForest to a 5-3 win over the Marshfield boys hockey team in a first-round game at the Andrew Thiel Memorial Tournament on Monday at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.

Marshfield fought back from a pair of one-goal deficits in the first period.

After Frank scored just 14 seconds into the game, the Tigers’ Tylan Schreiner had an unassisted goal at the 3:52 mark to tie the game at 1-1.

Frank scored again at 6:29, but Marshfield tied it again when Bobby Leggon scored off an assist from Schuyler Seyfert at the 8:32 mark.

DeForest goalie Joe Neff was able to hold the Tigers to just one more goal while saving 22 shots in the final two periods.

Jalen Knuteson put the Norskies on top for good with a goal 1:09 into the second period.

Bulovsky made it 4-2 with a goal in the third period. Austin Littmann got Marshfield one score closer with a goal at the 14:10 mark, but DeForest quickly regained the two-goal advantage when Jake Nordenstrom scored at 15:11.

Mac Alboreo had 24 saves for the Tigers, who fall to 1-7 on the season. Marshfield will host Altoona at 5 p.m. Tuesday and Chippewa Falls at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

In other games Monday, the Fox Valley Stars beat Chippewa Falls 5-1 and Altoona and the Oshkosh Ice Hawks tied 0-0.

On Tuesday, Chippewa Falls plays Oshkosh at noon and DeForest takes on Fox Valley at 2:30 p.m.
