Marshfield girls hockey loses opener at Schwan Cup

BLAINE, Minn. – Kettle Moraine scored three first-period goals and held off Marshfield the rest of the way, winning the first-round game 4-2 Monday at the Schwan Cup Girls Hockey Tournament.

Kettle Moraine took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jennifer Peck at the 4:33 mark before Marshfield quickly tied the score.

Katie Wendlandt scored a power-play goal off assists from Naomi Crump and Paige Johnson at the 6:12 mark, tying the score 1-1.

However, Kettle Moraine pulled away. Peck and Arianna Smith added goals before the end of the first period, and Smith added another in the first minute of the second period to give the Glacier a 4-1 lead.

Kate Schumitsch scored at the 6:59 mark of the third period for Marshfield’s final goal.

The Tigers (6-2) play St. Francis/North Branch (Minn.) in a losers’ bracket game at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
