Columbus Catholic soccer surges past McDonell/Regis

EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic scored a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to defeat Chippewa Falls McDonell/Eau Claire Regis 3-1 in a nonconference match Tuesday night at Regis High School.

McDonell/Regis took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 13th minute before Alex Edwards tied it with 6:16 to go before halftime for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic’s defense held the rest of the way as it allowed just four shots on goal in the game, and the Dons were able to push across two goals in the later minutes to pull out the victory.

Edwards scored again with 8:33 left on an assist from Nathan Nemitz, and Cy Becker knocked in an insurance goal 2:18 later for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic (11-2-2) plays a Central Wisconsin Conference match at Amherst on Thursday at 5 p.m. The Dons (6-0 CWC) lead Amherst (5-1) by one game in the conference standings.
